CLUB SAFETY POLICY

For the purpose of this document Tenby and District Swimming Club is referred to as "The Club".

INTRODUCTION

The Club undertakes to agree with Pool Operators on the arrangements necessary for ensuring the safety of Club swimmers at all times when pool hire occurs. The club safety policy will follow the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association (W ASA) safety guidelines.

Such agreement will provide either for the Pool Operator, or the Club itself, to provide lifeguard cover.

The detailed Safety Policy that follows relates to the Club's life guarding responsibilities but also includes general guidelines and rules for all club swimmers, coaches, pool assistants, lifeguards, and parents who have defined responsibilities and duties which complement and reinforce or aid the Club's basic obligation. Account has been taken of the Health and Safety at Work Act.l974 and the March 1988 Guidelines on Safety in Swimming Pools published jointly by the Health and Safety Executive and the Sports Council.

BASIC OBLIGATIONS

1. When the Club itself either agrees or is required to provide lifeguards, qualified lifeguards will be present on each and every occasion and in appropriate numbers as circumstances dictate. Where this cannot be done adequately on any occasion no activities will take place.

2. For Squad Competitive training sessions (of up to thirty or more experienced swimmers) at least one lifeguard will be provided or hired. Where the agreement is for the Club to have full responsibility, the Club will provide a qualified Coach I Lifeguard with qualified back-up support on call.

3. During Inter-Club Galas or Club Championships or other organised competitions, the above supervision will be maintained either by the club or as part of the hire facility.

4. The Club will draw the attention of all its members to its Safety Policy, and will ensure that they are familiar with, and understand, the emergency procedures that are generally referred to as the NOP (Normal Operating Procedures) and EOP (Emergency Operating Procedures).

Club Lifeguards, where provided, win be issued with Guidelines by the Pool Operators on their duties and responsibilities, and will be required to check from time-to-time with Pool Operators for any changes which affect their functions.
